Achieve Success through Affirmations — Path to Success
Last year my wife and I started out on a mission to find success in life. We started simple and very soon we had a whole lot of goals and plans underway. We started a study of success and pretty soon we came across the idea of affirmations.
Affirmations are a way to help you envision the life you want and to keep you inspired and on track to chase it down.
Read on to learn more about how affirmations can help you.
What Are Affirmations?
“Affirmations are sentences aimed to affect the conscious and the subconscious mind. The words composing the affirmation, automatically and involuntarily, bring up related mental images into the mind, which could inspire, energize and motivate. Repeating affirmations, and the resultant mental images, affect the subconscious mind, which in turn, influences the behavior, habits, actions and reactions.”
Initial View of Affirmations
Traditionally, I haven’t been much of a liberal positive thinker, so my initial reaction was that all this affirmation stuff was nonsense. In my study I was more inclined to listen to Tony Robbins on the subject, when he says things like:
“It’s not about positive thinking, because I don’t believe in that … I don’t believe you should go to your garden and chant, ‘There’s no weeds, there’s no weeds, there’s no weeds,’ and think that that’s going to solve something. I’m a believer in find the weed and rip it out.”
So, to be clear right from the start, I’m not a devoted affirmationist (if that’s what you call it). However, I am willing to concede that affirmations have power.
It is true that everyone talks to themselves. I do. The voice in my head goes all the time. It’s also true that what that voice says usually comes true. If it says, “you’re not good enough to write a novel!” Then, well, you’re not likely to ever write that novel. (Or whatever your pie-in-the-sky ambitions is.)
Therefore, what I’ve learnt is that if you want to find success and if you want to live with purpose and achieve all the wonderful things you’ve planned for your future, you need to have the kind of bright, positive, empowered voice that will drive you on to success. A powerful voice that drives you to take risks, to be positive and to persevere and strive to do more than you currently can.
I used to have an inner voice that sabotaged and stopped me at every turn. However, little by little, I’ve taken power over my thoughts and I’ve developed a new set of affirmations that will drive me on to achieve the success I need in the future.
My Story before Success Affirmations:
When I was younger, I used to be fat. I used to be a follower with no confidence and no direction. I was just floating along doing what I thought was normal. The voice in my head was on autopilot. There was no control over what it was telling me. And what it was telling me was all negative.
When I did start to take notice of this voice in my head, I started to realise the voice had manifested all of my circumstances.
You’re Fat and Ugly
The voice in my head used to say, “You’re fat and ugly and you can’t do this and you can’t do that”. It used to say, “no one wants you”, it used to say, “it’s too risky, don’t stand out and do anything adventurous”. It used to plan to drive me towards what it thought was the safest and easiest path. However, it lead me directly towards all the things that I really didn’t want.
It wasn’t until I consciously took control of the voice in my head that I could make things change. I forced myself to change from, “you’re too fat and useless”, to “just try, one step at a time, do better today than you did yesterday and you’re on the right track”. By changing this dialogue, I was able to change my beliefs and my realities. I went from 120KG couch potato to 80 KG running machine. (Relatively speaking.)
I’m Not Worth It
I used to say, “I’m not worth it”, or “it’s too hard to be successful” or “I don’t care about money” and things like that. That led me to working as a check-out chick, living in my mother’s basement. Then I changed the voice in my head and forced it to say, “I’m too good for this”; “I can do the work and get stronger”. This led me on to first class honours at university and a job that pays well and lets me travel around the world.
The voice in my head used to say, “no one wants me”, but then I forced it to say, “I’m smart and good and kind and anyone would be lucky to have me”. Now I am married to a beautiful and strong woman who I know absolutely does love me. Someone whom I absolutely cherish and adore.
I used to say: “it’s dangerous and risky”, but I stopped and changed to, “I like to roll the dice, I give it a go, what’s the worst that can happen”, and now I’m writing a novel, I’m writing a blog, I’m living overseas, I’m planning a great, amazing future full of excitement and adventure.
These changes led me to living wealthy, healthy, wise and becoming a ‘player’ a ‘grinder’ striving for success.
Now after I learned Success Affirmations:
Now I want to be bold enough to take the next step. What do I hear now? Now I still hear a little of that voice that says, “You’re asking for too much. It’s too hard. That won’t work. Don’t say stuff like that, people will think you’re crazy” and so on …
What I need to hear to succeed is, “I am a genius — I have millions already — I am intelligent, loved and powerful — I command my conscious and subconscious to delivery me all I need to succeed and so on …”
I’m not a crazy person — I’m not an arrogant person — but living with these strong voices gives me a skip in my step. They give me hope. They give me a positive attitude. Instead of feeling down, I’m pulling the shoulders back and going forward. In the end, all this affirmation nonsense may be rubbish, but I’m pretty sure I’ll go a lot further with the positive voice telling me I’m a winner, than the old voice that told me I was no good.
Control the Voice Within
To achieve success you need to take control of the voice within — make that little voice a strong voice, a booming voice that drives and commands you on towards your greater purpose. The voice that will enable and force you to achieve everything you want.
Stop the negative voices that hold you back and force yourself to live with purpose and nourish that voice that says, never stop striving for success.
